Children Board Games - Zoetic

2013 - 2016

This is a product project that lasted for nearly 4 years. The team has a total of 56 members, including 4 core members. I am the main creator of the game, responsible for the game conception, content, participating in graphic design, product testing, proofreading, marketing, business contact, and advertising material design. A children psychologist is responsible for product consulting and curriculum design, two graphic designers and a production manager.

Project Intro.

Zoetic (international) FQ Education Group Limited is a start-up company registered in Hong Kong, focusing on financial and business education. I was entrusted as the product project leader of the enterprise to create a brand-new game product series that meets the children's financial education course.

Challenge

The game's content should be related to the course and exciting and fun, and conform to the level of children and young adults. The balance between knowledge and playability needs to be very accurate. When designing the gameplay, I constantly consult people with financial related majors.

Another difficulty is cost. Some props of the game need to be customized, and many factories could not meet our requirements. Finally, we cooperated with a world-class board game factory, but this kept the game costly and put pressure on the market sales.

My point of view

The first generation of the game involves all courses content with four systems, personal skills, funds and stocks, banks and cash flows, and social instances. Because of its competitive gameplay, it has won the favour of many teenagers and adults. However, in the early years, social media weren't popular as today, traditional advertising was costly and limited. The game could not get enough attention.

We learned a lot from the first generation, The second one we reduced the difficulty of the content suitable for even 5 years old. The 2nd generation is a pocket game, but still kept four systems the same as the first one. Without the course, the pocket version is able to play like a board game.

Pop-up Book - Guangzhou Tower

2016

Project Intro.

The project is a freelance job. I was commissioned to plan a pop-up book for Guangzhou Tower, the landmark building in Guangzhou, China. Guangzhou Tower was the second tallest building in the world at that time and it was designed with many advanced architectural technologies. The client hopes that this book can make children interested in architecture, also plan to promote Guangzhou Tower.

Challenge

When I took over this project, I was going back to Australia, I only have 2 to 3 weeks time meet my team and plan all the work. After that, the project was completed remotely. I need to pass my ideas to the book designer through drafts and words and communicate closely with the production manager to ensure that the factory has the ability to achieve relevant pop-up effects.

My point of view

I planned the contents of the book and take charge of the copywriting and pop-up ideas. I have read a lot of architectural knowledge and try to conveyed it to the children simply and clearly as possible.

As I was born in Guangzhou, I am very proud to have the opportunity to receive this job, and I hope more people know about this lovely city.
